| Stromsburg looking east. Stromsburg on the Union Pacific Central City - Valparaiso branch (Brainard - Valparaiso abondoned in 1993) is on the UP "High Line". First part was constructed in the period of 1876-1879 for the Omaha & Republican Valley Railroad from Valley over Valparaiso to Stromsburg. The last part from Stromsburg to Central City was completed in 1907. In the 1970ties the branch received new heavier 131 pound rails and susbsequently many new grain elevators were constructed along the line. It was leased by NCRC in 1993 while the Brainard-Valparaiso part was abondoned. |
